. . The Passage and Your Painting . .

Gabriella Lewenz offers a beautiful and welcoming private sanctuary to stay for a week, and focus on a commissioned work of art that captures the spirit of your journey as you reflect and renew. It is called The Passage and The Painting.

To experience a complete change of scenery and give yourself the space to reflect, restore and renew Casale di Terra on New Zealand’s Waiheke Island offers that getaway; a handmade Italianate earth-brick country house overlooking the sea in Church Bay. Your journey begins standing outside on the ferry leaving from Auckland as you pass through the sacred volcanic islands of the Hauraki Gulf, the fresh air washes your face, clears your mind and invigorates your soul.

You are met at the wharf and escorted to the Casale guesthouse where you will stay as our guest for a week. You shower in pure rainwater, have a cup of herbal tea from the medicinal herb gardens and take a walk along some of New Zealand’s finest coastal tramping trails to refresh and take in the beauty of the island. Times of ease, spaciousness and rest are beautifully balanced in your day.

When rested and ready, you'll meet with Gabriella to discuss the work of art you want made to commemorate a special event, life transition or to celebrate your journey here.

Waiheke is an island people visit from all over the world for the quiet, the natural, the dark skies, brilliant days, long sand beaches and bush walks.

Your choices on culinary exploration are many… intimate cafes in the nearby villages, superb dining in the vineyard restaurants, no brands, franchises or chains. For the cafes and beaches, Gabriella provides you with a diary to record your thoughts, your observations and journey; the notes you bring back to your guesthouse sanctuary as your commissioned work of art takes form.

If you need time to be alone, the space is there. The sounds of Church Bay are the sheep, birds and the waves on the shore. The Casale has a small writers hut for meditation and benches on the hill, overlooking the land.

Gabriella works in handmade oils based on recipes of the old masters. You may choose your commissioned artwork on stretched canvas, or on the three-paneled altarpiece which is more distinctive and does not require wall space. The abstract icon is a freestanding triptych with a wide centerpiece and two folding panels that fold inward like door covers. The altarpiece can sit on a table, desk or altar as well as hang on the wall. You can select a smaller size that can be carried with you, or a larger size placed in a special area in your home. You may also choose to select a comparable work of art hanging in her studio gallery.

Prices are based on the size and complexity of the finished piece. Patrons may choose from a range of price points for a commissioned work of art, and includes staying as Gabriella’s guest in the private guesthouse and free shipping of artwork. Phone or email below to discuss the details.

You're here. It's New Zealand. It's a thousand miles long, with over 9,000 miles of coastline, spectacular mountain ranges, a vibrant indigenous culture and sophisticated cities. After your time at the Casale on Waiheke Island, plan a walkabout to explore the other two islands (North and South). We work with some of New Zealand's top guides including Bespoke Tours.
